guest spots and conch piercings

I try to do a guest spot at least once every year or two as it’s a great way to learn new things. I find that it forces me to  step out of my box and way of thinking, and enables my mind to expand to new thoughts and ideas! Plus, when I get the chance to work with some of the best piercers in the industry, my mind gets filled like a sink, overflowing with knowledge!

A few months back I went to work a few days at Omega Red in Cedar Falls, IA. As luck would have it, a huge snowstorm set in, slowing our trip waaaaay down. Our 5-6 hour trip took us double that time, but we made it safely and checked into our hotel room at the Isle casino. The beds were warm and inviting and upon waking up we found the entire city stuck under a few feet of snow. Luckily, nothing stops a determined body piercer, so we trekked over to the studio. Once we thawed out, I settled in, drooling over the amazing jewelry collection at their mall location!

My guest spot consisted of very little piercing, but LOTS of knowledge sharing. Luckily one of the employees decided that it was her day to get a new piercing and that I would get the privilege of performing it!

She decided on a pair of conch piercings, one on each side. Upon analyzing the structure of her ear and filling the space she desired, we decided upon 4mm Faceted, Prong-set Opals that attach to a ‘snap-fit’  18g labret post from Neometal. The larger gemstone filled the curve of her ear nicely and the opals sparkle so much I couldn’t get a decent picture of it!

Aside from the weather slowing down business, I had a great time and would like to thank the crew at Omega Red for inviting me into their studio and sharing tons of knowledge and love of piercing!
